ABOUT THE COURSE

This course provides a thorough understanding of the blockchain technology and explains its potential for disruption and the effect on art and art market.  Participants will be able to understand how the blockchain functions and learn about advantages presented by this ground-breaking technology. By the end of the program, participants will have a clear understanding of cryptography basics, cryptocurrencies, ICOs, smart contracts and decentralized organizations.

Fiorenzo Manganiello

 

Fiorenzo Manganiello is a professor of blockchain technologies at Geneva Business School and a thesis supervisor for master in finance and MBA students. He was awarded Blockchain Expert Switzerland for 2018 by Acquisition International. He is also an advisor to INVESTRE NETWORK, a cross chain lending platform and derivative marketplace.


COURSE STRUCTURE:

MODULE 1 - Blockchain Building Blocks

The module will cover the building blocks of the blockchain technology. Through practical examples, participants will also be able to understand how a blockchain is built.

MODULE 2 - Art and blockchain use case: provenance and authenticity

In this module, participants will discover how blockchain could be implemented to secure the provenance and the authenticity of the artworks.

MODULE 3 - Cryptocurrencies and ICO (Initial Coin Offering)

Starting from an overview of the Bitcoin, participants will learn the different ways of buying and trading cryptocurrencies and how to launch and set up an initial coin offering (ICO). 

MODULE 4 - Smart Contracts and Decentralised Applications (DAPPS)

By analyzing the Ethereum case, participants will understand how a smart contract works and its disruptive potential. The module will also introduce the innovative concept of decentralized applications (DAPPS). 

MODULE 5 - Art and blockchain use case: fractional ownership and investment

Will blockchain improve the liquidity of the art market? this module describes the concept of fractional ownership and analyses how blockchain could possibly transform an artwork into an investment product.

ARTTECH ARTIST FELLOWSHIP

This fall New Art Academy launches ArtTech Artist Fellowship, an initiative to support artists whose works are conceptually or literally inspired by innovative technologies, such as blockchain.  Select artists will receive free access to Blockchain Fundamentals course and create works inspired by or based on blockchain technology. They will be guided in their creative process by the advisory committee consisting of established artists, museum curators, advisors and collectors. The artists will also get an opportunity to present their final works in an online or (and) physical gallery.
